NEW DELHI
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), led by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, announced that they have passed a proposal to regularise 5,000 sanitation workers in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). The party posted on X (formally Twitter): “The Aam Aadmi Party-led MCD has passed a proposal to regularise 5,000 sanitation workers in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi. We have fulfilled the promise we made. Congratulations to all sanitation workers and their families who received this wonderful Diwali gift. Work diligently to serve the people of Delhi, and together, we will make Delhi a clean, beautiful city.”The MCD approved the proposal to regularise the 5,000 sanitation works of East Delhi Municipal Corporation in its House session on Tuesday. During the session, the House considered 58 agendas, of which 54 have been approved by the House.
After the House adjourned, MCD mayor Dr Shelly Oberoi said while addressing the press: “The MCD had unanimously passed a proposal to regularise 5,000 sanitation workers, and about 3,100 Dengue Breeding Checkers (DBC) workers have been promoted as multi-tasking staff.”
However, former Mayor and leader of opposition in MCD, Raja Iqbal Singh, blamed the AAP-led MCD and said they had passed all proposals without following legal procedures. He said, “This time, 51 topics were included in the agenda, out of which most of them were first supposed to be passed from the standing committee and then brought into the House for discussion, but the Aam Aadami Party is bypassing the standing committee and has approved all the proposals on its own.” He further said that nearly Rs 1,500 crore worth of various proposals were passed by the MCD inhouse meeting, which is against the Delhi Municipal Corporation Act.
