Kishtwar, July 20: An encounter broke out on Saturday afternoon between terrorists and joint security forces in the dense Dachchan forest area of Kishtwar district, Jammu and Kashmir. According to official sources, contact has been established with a group of terrorists hiding in the area, with at least two to three militants believed to be trapped.

Personnel from the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police are carrying out the operation with precision, aiming to neutralise the terrorists. The forest zone has been cordoned off, and intense firing was reported from the encounter site.

This is the second major counter-terror operation in the region in recent months. In May this year, two terrorists were gunned down in a similar operation in Kishtwar, underscoring the district’s increasing strategic focus in the broader anti-terror crackdown in Jammu’s Chenab Valley.

Security officials said the operation is underway and more reinforcements have been rushed to the area to prevent any escape attempt. Further details are awaited as the gunfight continues.
