Chandigarh: The Crime Branch of Haryana Police have busted a beef smuggling racket in Haryana’s Nuh district.

The  police team have raided Mohammadpur Ahir village, resulting in the arrest of a father-son duo, Mohammad Farooq and Mohammad Javed. The police claimed that the accused were involved in smuggling of beef.

The raid led to the recovery of approximately 710 kilograms of suspected beef and the rescue of four cows. The development has also exposed cow smuggling despite  strict law enacted by the state government.

The police officials said that following a tip-off, a police team  led by Inspector Satpal Singh of the Crime Branch raided a location in Mohammadpur Ahir, where the suspects were allegedly involved in cow slaughter and beef distribution.

The police operation was supported by a veterinary team from the local animal hospital to verify the nature of the seized meat. Initial examinations confirmed the meat as beef, with samples sent for forensic analysis to a laboratory in Faridabad for further confirmation. The raid also uncovered evidence of cattle theft, with the accused allegedly sourcing cows from both Haryana and Uttar Pradesh to fuel their illicit trade.

The police claimed that the operation revealed a well-organized network, with the suspects reportedly engaging in the home delivery of beef in Nuh district which is notorious for cattle smuggling and cow slaughter.

The cows recovered from the accused have been sent to a nearby cow shelter f and further action will be taken against the accused under the Haryana Gauvansh Sanrakshan and Gausamvardhan Act, 2015.

The police said that the arrested accused have been booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita including provisions related to cow slaughter and illegal meat trade.

The police teams are continuing their investigation to uncover potential inter-state or international links in the smuggling racket, with a focus on identifying other individuals involved in the network. The Muslims dominated Nih had earlier remained the epicenter of incidents of cow smuggling in Haryana.  Recently, the state had witnessed a lynching of a migrant worker in Charkhi Dadri over unverified suspicions of beef consumption.

The police officials associated with the investigation revealed that they are conducting a through investigation to find out involvement of more people in the racket.

To put a complete check on cow slaughtering and smuggling of cattle the Manohar Lal led BJP governmwnt in Haryana had passed the Haryana Gauvansh Sanrakshan and Gausamvardhan Act, 2015 which  made cow slaughter and smuggling punishable with rigorous imprisonment up to 10 years.
