BJP prepares for Assam polls with fresh faces, welfare schemes, and a new strategy.

New Delhi: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has signaled a major reshuffle in the BJP’s candidate list ahead of the 2026 Assam Assembly elections, declaring that many sitting MLAs may not be re-nominated due to constituency realignments and strategic adjustments.

Sarma said several current legislators would be dropped or step aside voluntarily as the party prepares to field fresh faces across many seats. “It will not be possible for every sitting MLA to be given a ticket,” he told reporters, citing the impact of delimitation, which has earmarked certain seats for SC/ST candidates.

He also confirmed that multiple long-pending welfare schemes—targeting healthcare, education, rural infrastructure, and social development—will be rolled out on Independence Day. “These schemes are entering the implementation phase. Their success will ensure BJP’s return to power in 2026,” he stated confidently.

The comments followed a two-day BJP Assam unit strategy session at Sonapur, near Guwahati. BJP National General Secretary (Organisation) B.L. Santosh and Assam state president Dilip Saikia joined the meeting, which focused on reassessing political ground realities and finalising an action plan for the elections.
