Jammu: Ladakh Lieutenant Governor Kavinder Gupta on Friday unfurled the national flag at Leh’s historic Polo Ground to mark the 79th Independence Day, paying rich tributes to the armed forces and vowing to take every section of society along in the Union Territory’s development journey.
Addressing the gathering after inspecting an impressive parade, Gupta reaffirmed his commitment to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas”. “Our mission will be to unite every community, every section, and every region of Ladakh in our shared journey towards development, progress and prosperity,” he said, urging people to imbibe the duties and responsibilities enshrined in the Constitution.
Recalling that he assumed office on July 18 this year, the LG said he had since travelled to every corner of the UT, including Kargil, to listen to people’s hopes, aspirations, and concerns. “I will continue to hear your viewpoints so that we can work together to fulfil your wishes,” he added.
Gupta paid homage to the armed forces for their role in safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty, making special mention of the Ladakh Scouts for their “unmatched courage” in conflicts including the Kargil War. “I bow before the brave warriors and express my heartfelt gratitude,” he said.
Referring to the recent visit of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, the LG said it was Ladakh’s good fortune to host him, noting the celebration of his 90th birthday as a moment of immense pride and spiritual joy.
Congratulating the people on the creation of newly formed districts and recognition of local languages, Gupta said these steps would strengthen Ladakh’s cultural identity. On employment, he stressed that generating opportunities for youth would be a top priority, pointing out that 95 per cent of government jobs have been reserved for locals following the introduction of domicile-based recruitment this June.
“With determination and unity, Ladakh will reach new heights of development, peace, and prosperity,” the LG asserted.
