Jammu: On the eve of the 79th Independence Day, Principal Accountant General (PAG) Jammu & Kashmir, K P Yadav, hoisted the National Flag at his office headquarters in Jammu and delivered a message underscoring the urgent need for environmental accountability in development projects.
Expressing deep anguish over the large-scale destruction caused by the recent Chositi Kishtwar tragedy, Yadav linked such disasters to climate change and unchecked interference with nature. He pointed out that both the Kishtwar and Dharali incidents were stark reminders of environmental degradation in the Union Territory.
“Carrying out environmental audits during the execution of developmental works is the need of the hour,” Yadav asserted, adding that such measures, if implemented in their true letter and spirit, would significantly reduce the occurrence of natural calamities.
Highlighting that the Government has rolled out several programmes and schemes for public welfare, Yadav emphasized that his office has a duty to identify shortcomings in their execution and suggest practical improvements.
The ceremony also witnessed the distribution of letters of commendation to staff members for their meritorious service, with Yadav lauding their dedication and contribution to the department’s work.
