Srinagar: In a significant move to safeguard the academic future of thousands of children, the Jammu and Kashmir Government on Friday ordered the takeover of *215 schools affiliated directly or indirectly with the proscribed Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) and its affiliate Falah-e-Aam Trust (FAT).*
According to the official order, the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, through its notifications S.O.1069(E) dated February 28, 2019, and S.O.924(E) dated February 27, 2024, declared Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI), Jammu and Kashmir, as an unlawful association under Section 3(1) of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.
“The Intelligence Agencies have identified a number of schools which were found to be directly or indirectly affiliated with proscribed organisation Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI)/Falah-e-Aam Trust (FAT),” the government order stated.
Officials noted that the validity of the managing committees of these *215 schools had expired and adverse reports were submitted against them by intelligence agencies.*
“In order to safeguard the academic future of the students enrolled in these schools, it is hereby ordered that the management of these institutions shall be taken over by the concerned District Magistrates/Deputy Commissioners. They shall propose fresh managing committees for the schools after due verification,” the order further read.
The District Magistrates and Deputy Commissioners have also been directed to work in close coordination with the School Education Department to ensure that the *academic career of students remains unaffected* during the transition.
The government further directed officials to take all necessary measures to ensure that quality education is imparted in line with *National Education Policy (NEP) norms.*
This action, officials said, is part of the broader effort to *curb the influence of banned organisations* in Jammu and Kashmir while simultaneously ensuring that students enrolled in these schools are not disadvantaged by the administrative changes.
