PATNA/MOTIHARI: Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Friday kicked off her campaign for Bihar as she launched fierce attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Nitish Kumar-led NDA government in the state saying they are providing Rs 10,000 per month to women as elections are inching closer to get their votes and asked why it did not do the same in last 20 years.

Priyanka Gandhi made the remarks during her day long Bihar visit as she first interacted with women in Patna at party’s state headquarters Sadaqat Ashram and also addressed her first public meeting in Champaran’s Motihari.

Priyanka Gandhi upon her arrival in Patna first attended an interaction programme with over 2,000 women from different walks of life.

Taking a swipe at the Modi-led central government and Nitish Kumar-led Bihar government for opting to transfer Rs 10,000 per month into the bank accounts of over 75 lakh women under the newly launched Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana for Bihar, she said, “Elections are approaching in Bihar and thus Rs 10,000 were being transferred to women accounts in the state.”

Firing salvos at the state government, the Congeess Lok Sabha MP from Kerala’s Wayanad said, “What were they doing for the last 20 years as they didn’t transfer them any money?”

She also alleged: “Rs 10,000 per month is being transferred to women bank accounts so that they can vote for the BJP in the assembly polls. This is their motto and their intention.”

The Congress leader also highlighted that how her elder brother and Leader of Oppositoon in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi is fighting for social justice of the people.

“He (Rahul Gandhi) wants that the women must get their right and respect,” she said and also urged the women to understand their own condition and elect rhe new government carefully in the coming days socrhat it can ensure them their rights and respect.

“If you want to lead your life with respect and dignity, then you need to defeat the BJP-Janata Dal United government,” Priyanka Gandhi said.

She also asserted that the women need to realise that which party will give them respect as she further targeted the government and said, “Giving respect does jot mean that you provide money just before elections. This is an attempt to buy votes.”

She reminded the women that women will only get respect and dignity of they get a fair monthly salary, when the government helps you stand on your own feet and when your daughters go to school and feel safe.

“The BJP and Nitish Kumar government will never give you such respect. Here, when you raise your voice for your rights, you are beaten and imprisoned,” she alleged.

She also highlighted the Grand Alliance’s guarantee for Bihar qnd said that once voted to power it will provide Rs 2,500 per month for women, free treatment up to Rs 25 lakh and 3 to 5 decimals of land for landless families, with women as their ownership rights

She also launched an attack on the BJP for bringing religion during polls to divert the attention from real issues.

She said, “The BJP raises one issue or another during elections, sometimes religion, sometimes infiltration. But when nothing worked, they resorted to vote theft.”

“The BJP has made elaborate arrangements for vote theft. Their sole aim is to remain in power,” she said taking a sharp dig at the BJP.

Meanwhile, Priyanka Gandhi also during the public meeting in Motihari said, “BJP asks us what Congress did in 70 years… I am answering that Congress has strengthened your rights. Your vote has strengthened. Congress built big industries and educational institutions. When Congress was in power in Bihar, big institutions were built.

“Many big dams and roads were built… This was an educated society. People from here became IAS and IFS… Today, there is no employment… I travel all over the country. My house was being built in Himachal Pradesh. Where were the labourers from?… All the buildings that are built in Delhi, where are the labourers from?… In Kerala, I was walking on the road. I stopped and asked a labourer who was digging the road where he was from?… The entire population is migrating. Not a single job has been left here for you…,” she said highlighting the lack of job opportunity in Bihar.
