The Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU), Sadar Hills, expressed deep regret over the government’s continued indifference following the expiry of the 48-hour ultimatum served in connection with the abduction of Kamginlen Chongloi at Makhan Village near the Indira Gandhi National Tribal University on October 2, 2025.

The Committee has asserted that such inaction gravely undermines the sense of safety and confidence among the Kuki-Zo populace residing in the region.

CoTU further announced that, with the expiry of the ultimatum served on October 4, 2025, it is compelled to enforce an Economic Blockade beginning midnight of October 7 and lasting until midnight of October 9, 2025, demanding that the government take concrete steps to “rectify the security lapses in the buffer zones and ensure the safety of commuters” traveling between Kangpokpi and Churachandpur, particularly through the vulnerable stretches of Makhan and Leikhanpokpi villages.

The statement emphasized that the blockade was not merely a protest but a compelled act of self-protection born out of the government’s apathy towards the security concerns of the tribal community.
