Australia shares set to edge up, NZ flat

Last Updated: October 16, 2025 02:54:47 IST

Oct 16 (Reuters) – Australian shares are likely to inch higher at open on Thursday, with a potential gain in gold stocks on the back of record bullion prices possibly outweighing a likely fall in energy and mining stocks on lower underlying commodity prices, while local investors await jobs data due later in the day. The local share price index futures edged up 0.1%, a 33.1-point premium to the underlying S&P/ASX 200 index close. The benchmark climbed 1% on Wednesday. New Zealand's benchmark S&P/NZX 50 index was largely unchanged in early trade. (Reporting by Shivangi Lahiri in Bengaluru; Editing by Chris Reese)
