JAMMU: In a major breakthrough in the ongoing war against drugs, Jammu Police and the Border Security Force (BSF) jointly recovered 5 kg of heroin from the border area of R.S. Pura, following a meticulously coordinated overnight operation.
Addressing the media, SSP Jammu Joginder Singh said that the BSF had shared a vital input regarding a suspected consignment dropped via drone along the International Border and that a few individuals were expected to retrieve it. Acting swiftly on the intelligence, a joint operation was launched last night, and extensive searches were conducted early this morning.
“During the operation, we recovered two packets of narcotics — each containing five smaller packets — making a total of ten packets. The Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) confirmed the substance to be heroin, weighing around 5 kilograms,” SSP Singh stated.
He further said that a case has been registered and investigation is underway to unearth the forward and backward linkages of the smuggling network. “This year alone, Jammu Police has arrested 40 individuals linked to narcotics smuggling. We have also identified 21 persons involved in the broader chain, as part of our sustained crackdown on drug networks,” he added.
The recovery underscores the continuing challenge of drone-based narcotics smuggling across the border and highlights the growing coordination between Jammu Police and BSF to dismantle trans-border drug syndicates.
