Second phase of Bihar polls record 67.14% voter turnout across 20 districts

Bihar’s second phase of Assembly polls saw 67.14% turnout; Kishanganj led at 76.26%, Nawada lowest at 57.11%. Voting seals fate of 12 ministers; counting on Nov 14.

NEW DELHI: Bihar witnessed a voter turnout of 67.14 per cent in the second phase of the Assembly elections as of 5:00 PM, according to the data released by the Election Commission of India (ECI).

Among the 20 districts that went to polls, Kishanganj recorded the highest turnout at 76.26 per cent, followed by Katihar (75.23%), Purnia (73.79%), Sapaul (70.69%), and Purvi Champaran (69.31%). In contrast, Nawada registered the lowest voter turnout among these districts, standing at 57.11 per cent.

At the assembly constituency level, Pranpur saw the highest polling with 78.89 per cent, followed by Kishanganj at 78.52 per cent. Conversely, Nawada witnessed the lowest turnout at 53.65 per cent, closely trailed by Bhagalpur, which recorded 55.17 per cent voter participation.

Voting for the Second phase of the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections concluded today at 6 PM, though polling in several constituencies ended at 5 PM due to security-related restrictions. In this phase, 122 constituencies across 20 districts went to polls. Significantly, the first phase of polling registered the highest voter turnout in Bihar’s electoral history, with the state recording 65.08 per cent polling. The counting of votes is scheduled to take place on November 14.

Among the key constituencies, Gaya Town recorded a 58.43 per cent turnout, Supaul saw 69.72.88 per cent, Amour registered 71.41 per cent, Sitamarhi noted 67.54 per cent, Chainpur recorded 67.41 per cent, Jhanjharpur saw 57.73 per cent, Araria registered 66.39 per cent, Aurangabad recorded 62.79 per cent, Arwal saw 62.97 per cent, Purnia registered 77.02 per cent, and Kishanganj reported 78.52 per cent voter turnout.

Moreover, the second phase will determine the electoral fate of 12 ministers from Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s cabinet. Among them are JD(U) leaders Vijendra Yadav (Supaul), Lesi Singh (Dhamdaha), Jayant Kushwaha (Amarpur), Sumit Singh (Chakai), Mohammad Jama Khan (Chainpur), and Sheela Mandal (Phoolparas). Ministers from the BJP contesting in this phase include Prem Kumar (Gaya), Renu Devi (Bettiah), Vijay Kumar Mandal (Sikati), Nitish Mishra (Jhanjharpur), Neeraj Bablu (Chhatapur), and Krishnanandan Paswan (Harsiddhi).

Meanwhile, Lok Sabha MP Radha Mohan Singh took a sharp dig at Tejashwi Yadav, the Mahagathbandhan’s Chief Ministerial candidate, as polling for the second phase progressed. After casting his vote at a polling booth in Motihari, Singh told reporters, “We will win the Motihari Assembly seat by record votes.”

The Purvi Champaran MP further asserted that Tejashwi Yadav, who also serves as the Leader of Opposition in the Bihar Legislative Assembly, would “never” be able to form a government “in this universe” after the completion of the assembly elections. Singh quipped, “He (Tejashwi Yadav) will not form a government in this universe. That may happen in Nepal or China, but he will never be able to form a government in any Indian state.”
