Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Amit Malviya on Tuesday mounted a strong attack on the Bangladesh interim government, alleging persistent attacks on religious minorities and asserting that “minority lives do not matter” under the present administration.
In a post shared on social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter), Malviya accused the interim authorities of failing to ensure the safety of Hindus and other religious minority communities, including Christians and Buddhists. He further alleged that the government had neither taken concrete action against those responsible nor provided any reassurance or comfort to the affected groups.
“The interim government has done nothing to rein in the tormentors of Hindus and other religious minorities, including Christians and Buddhists. It has also failed to offer even a single word of solace. Instead, the individual at the helm has dismissed these targeted attacks as ‘fiction.’ The message conveyed is deeply chilling,” Malviya wrote on X.
Citing a recent incident from Bangladesh’s Feni district, the BJP leader drew attention to the killing of a 28-year-old Hindu auto-rickshaw driver, Samir Kumar Das, and described the incident as part of what he called the continued persecution of minority communities since the emergence of what he termed the “unelected Yunus regime.”
“In yet another targeted assault on the Hindu community in Bangladesh, 28-year-old Samir Kumar Das was brutally murdered on January 11 in Dagonbhuiyan in Feni. The attackers also fled with his autorickshaw, which was his only means of livelihood,” Malviya stated.
According to police officials and local sources, Samir Kumar Das, also known as Samir Chandra Das, was attacked late on Sunday night in the vicinity of the Daganbhuiyan Upazila Health Complex in Feni district. He was allegedly beaten and stabbed with country-made weapons, after which the assailants escaped with his battery-operated CNG auto-rickshaw.
Local residents discovered his blood-soaked body at around 2:00 am on Monday near Dakshin Karimpur Muhuri Bari and promptly informed the police. Family members of the deceased said that he had been supporting his family by driving the auto-rickshaw for several years and became alarmed when he failed to return home by late Sunday afternoon.
Officer-in-Charge of Daganbhuiyan Police Station, Muhammad Faizul Azim, confirmed that a detailed investigation is underway and that efforts are being made to trace and apprehend those involved in the crime. “We are looking into whether robbery was the only motive or if other factors were involved. Preliminary findings indicate that the killing may have been premeditated,” he said.
The authorities have appealed to the public to share any information that could help identify the perpetrators. Meanwhile, the victim’s family has demanded a comprehensive investigation and swift justice in the case.
