Mumbai will vote on Thursday to elect new members of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). While regular voters already know the process, first-time voters are advised to make a few important preparations before heading to the polling booth. Election officials have also reminded all citizens to be ready in advance to avoid any last-minute issues.
As Maharashtra prepares for this major democratic exercise, the State Election Commission (SEC) and local authorities have urged people to verify their voter details early so they can vote smoothly on polling day.
BMC Elections 2026: First time Voters Must Verify Their Names
Election officials have made it clear that only those whose names appear on the final voter list will be allowed to vote. To avoid last-minute trouble, First time voters as well as other voters are advised to confirm their details online.
The easiest way is through the SEC’s voter search portal at mahasecvoterlist.in. This link is also available in the “Election” section of the BMC’s official website, mcgm.gov.in.
Voters can search using:

Their full name and Assembly Constituency, or

Their EPIC (Voter ID) number
When searching by name, selecting the correct district (Mumbai City or Mumbai Suburban) and entering a father’s or spouse’s name helps narrow down the result.
Once found, the portal will show:

Voter serial number

Exact polling station, including building and room number
The SEC advises voters to save or print this voter slip to make the voting process quicker. However, this slip cannot be used as identity proof.
Voters can also check their details through the Election Commission of India at voters.eci.gov.in or via the Voter Helpline App available at eci.gov.in/voter-helpline-app/.

BMC Elections 2026: Schedule, Total Seats, Candidates & Voters
A total of 227 corporator seats are being contested in the BMC election. Around 1,700 candidates are in the race across Mumbai’s wards. This includes 879 women and 821 men. Mumbai alone has more than one crore eligible voters.
The voting will take place in one phase on January 15, along with elections for 29 municipal corporations across Maharashtra. The results will be declared the next day.
All eyes are on the BMC, which is India’s largest and richest municipal body. For the past few years, Mumbai has been run by a state-appointed administrator. This election marks the return of an elected civic government to the city.
