Spain is on its way to make a royal milestone. By ending a long chapter, Princess Leonor is set to become the country’s first governing queen in nearly 150 years. Being the eldest daughter of the family, her journey has been shaped with a robust military training and elite global education. She has been given diplomatic responsibilities since an early age.
Who is Princess Leonor?
Leonor de Todos los Santos de Borbón y Ortiz or the renowned name Princess Leonor is the eldest daughter of King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia. Since she was born in 2005, her name holds the title princess of Asturias. She is the heir to the Spanish throne and Infanta Sofia is her younger sister who was born on 29 April 2007. Her levitation will create a history as she will become Spain’s first queen regnant since Isabella II, who ruled in the 1800s.

From solo Air force flights to naval voyages, she has been trained fully and her preparation reflects a modern monarchy inspiring many women. She carries excellence in Spanish, Catalan, English and French language while maintaining Arabic and Mandarin as working languages reflecting her forward international goals and sharp global diplomatic priorities.
Why will her ascent be remembered in History?
For almost a century and a half, Spain has not had a reigning queen.It is important to note that while the queen has always been associated alongside with kings, leonor would now run the business on her own. Her leap will mark a major transition for the modern spanish monarchy, which has been led by the bourbon dynasty since the early 1700s.
While it was almost decided, it was her 18th birthday where she had took the oath in front of the Spanish parliament. Before that, she had already started carrying the bureaucratic roles when she was just nine.
When will she become the Queen?
The official date has not been announced yet. Leonor will initiate the status of queen once her father King Felipe VI resign or upon his passing. Until then she will continue her formal preparation as Spain’s future head of state and commander-in-chief of the armed forces.
