A new Netflix documentary will reopen public attention on one of the most disturbing criminal cases in recent British history, the conviction of neonatal nurse Lucy Letby. The streaming giant has confirmed that its upcoming film, The Investigation Of Lucy Letby, will feature never-before-seen footage from her arrest and police questioning, along with fresh testimony from investigators and the family of a victim.

The documentary will premiere globally on Netflix on Wednesday, February 4, and promises a detailed look into the investigation that led to Letby’s conviction, while also exploring the intense debate that has followed her trial.

Lucy Letby Documentary: Unseen Footage and Police Interviews

The documentary trailer reveals dramatic scenes recorded during Letby’s arrest. Cameras capture the moment police enter her bedroom and inform her that she is under arrest for murder and attempted murder. In another clip, Letby leaves her home wearing a dressing gown as officers escort her away.

Viewers will also see excerpts from her police interviews. In one such moment, Letby is heard saying: “It was all just spiralling out of control.”

The footage marks the first time these moments have been shown publicly and adds new insight into how the investigation unfolded behind closed doors.

Lucy Letby Documentary: Victim’s Mother Speaks Out for the First Time

For the first time, a family member of one of the victims involved in the prosecution has agreed to take part in a documentary. The film includes contributions from the mother of one of the babies who died, offering a deeply personal perspective on the case.

Netflix says the documentary aims to balance the police investigation with the emotional impact on families affected by the crimes, while also examining how the case captured worldwide attention.

Lucy Letby Documentary: Global Attention, Social Media Debate, and Public Doubt

The documentary also explores the massive media coverage surrounding Letby’s trial. It highlights how the case sparked intense discussion online, with social media users questioning aspects of the investigation and verdict.

The film addresses the growing public debate, including doubts raised by some commentators about the evidence used to convict Letby, while also presenting the findings that led to her life sentences.

Who Is Lucy Letby?

Lucy Letby is a former neonatal nurse from Hereford, England. Now 36 years old, she worked at the Countess of Chester Hospital between 2015 and 2016. During that period, prosecutors said she deliberately harmed babies under her care.

In 2023, a jury convicted Letby of murdering seven infants and attempting to murder seven others, with two attempts on one child. She received 15 whole-life prison orders, making her one of the most prolific child killers in British history. Letby continues to maintain her innocence.

Lucy Letby Documentary: No Further Charges, Inquiry Report Awaited

Police recently confirmed that Letby will not face additional charges linked to other baby deaths and collapses that were investigated after her trial. Prosecutors reviewed evidence related to further alleged offences at both the Countess of Chester Hospital and Liverpool Women’s Hospital but decided not to proceed.

Meanwhile, the public inquiry led by Lady Justice Thirlwall into how Letby was able to commit her crimes inside a hospital neonatal unit is expected to publish its findings later this year.

As Netflix prepares to release The Investigation Of Lucy Letby, the documentary is likely to reignite public discussion around justice, accountability, and one of the most shocking healthcare scandals in the UK.
