Justin Gaethje put on a stunning performance at UFC 324, the first numbered event of the organization’s new Paramount+ era, by defeating Paddy Pimblett via unanimous decision to claim the interim UFC lightweight title. The five‑round main event turned into a brutal, fight‑of‑the‑year‑quality battle before judges scored the bout in Gaethje’s favor.

Gaethje’s pressure and sharp striking kept Pimblett on the back foot for much of the fight. The judges gave him the victory with scores of 49‑46, 49‑46, and 48‑47, earning him the interim 155‑pound crown.

Gaethje vs Pimblett: Fight Breakdown

The matchup between Gaethje and Pimblett became one of the most talked‑about fights of the night. Despite being known as a grappler, Pimblett stood and traded with Gaethje instead of frequently attempting takedowns. This choice led to a high-paced striking battle rather than the expected ground exchange.

Gaethje, known for his relentless forward movement and heavy punches, controlled the action with powerful combinations. Pimblett absorbed punishment, bled around the eyes, and never quit, earning respect from fans and commentators alike.

“That Scouser Does Not Get Knocked Out”

After the fight, Gaethje praised his opponent’s toughness. “That Scouser does not get knocked out,” he said, reflecting on the gritty battle they just shared. “This is a crazy sport, an amazing life, and I’m so thankful to share it with you guys.”

Pimblett, resilient despite the loss, remained positive and acknowledged the challenge. “I wanted to leave with that belt,” he said, “But there’s no other man I’d rather lose to than ‘The Highlight.’”

New Paths For Gaethje: Title Unification Looms

With the interim title secured, Gaethje now stands in line for a potential unification fight against undisputed champion Ilia Topuria, assuming Topuria returns to action later in the year. This sets up a major lightweight showdown that MMA fans are already anticipating.

In the co‑main event, former bantamweight champion Sean O’Malley secured a unanimous decision victory over Song Yadong. O’Malley controlled the third round and surprised many by pulling away late to win 29‑28 on all scorecards.

After the win, O’Malley immediately called for a title clash with reigning champion Petr Yan, reminding fans and UFC brass of his championship ambitions.

Big Night in Vegas: UFC Bonuses and Standouts

UFC 324 wasn’t just exciting for the fighters; it was lucrative, too. Gaethje and Pimblett each earned a $100,000 Fight of the Night bonus for their effort. Additional six‑figure bonuses also went to Ty Miller and Josh Hokit for their standout performances.

Under the new bonus structure introduced with the Paramount+ partnership, fighters who win by KO or submission, but don’t receive a top bonus, also receive an extra $25,000, adding more incentive for thrilling finishes.
