The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) is currently implementing its digital transformation project EPFO 3.0, which will transform its operational systems and service offerings for all Indian contributors and pensioners. The EPFO 3.0 system implements a new system that functions like a core banking system, using modern technology to provide faster, easier access to information. The initiative includes UPI-enabled PF withdrawals, ATM-style access, improved self-service portals, and automated claims processing, all of which work to reduce members’ dependence on physical EPFO offices while providing better access to services.

Pension Hike: What’s the Current Status?

The Employees’ Pension Scheme (EPS-95) minimum pension increase has not received official confirmation despite strong demand from pensioners and trade unions. The current minimum pension stays at ₹1,000 per month because it has not changed in more than ten years. EPFO board meetings have discussed raising the minimum pension because board members received two different proposals, which suggested increasing the minimum pension between ₹1,500 and ₹2,500, but no decision has been made public yet.

The 2025 parliamentary responses showed that the government currently has no plans to increase the minimum EPS pension because it has received requests from pensioners, and inflation rates have risen.

What Pensioners Should Know?

EPFO programs develop pension services through the Centralised Pension Payment System (CPPS) and digital life certificate submission services despite the absence of a major pension increase. The pension administration system receives modernisation through these reforms, which continue past pension amount negotiations.
