Mother Yashoda

A reflective poem questioning whether motherhood has limits, drawing parallels between modern life and maternal figures from Indian mythology.

Does Motherhood have an expiry date?

For girls until their puberty where they insist on closing the doors of their bedroom password protecting their phones no parent can hack.

For gangly boys innocent of women till they get married.

In these days of varied sexuality.

To a woman especially. Kaushalya lost fourteen years of Rama’s youth and was reborn as Yashoda. Kaikeyi was Devaki forced to miss her son the way she did to Kaushalya in the Ramayana.

But tell me what was Yashoda’s fault to lose her beloved Kanha to a blood family where feuds were rampant unlike in Vrindavan where love was rampant?
