On June 4, 1958, Anthony Charles Shackleton “Tony” Pigott was born in Fulham, London. Tony was a talented fast-medium bowler, who started his career with cricket profession with Sussex in 1977. This step instantly made an impact by taking a hat-trick on his first-class debut in 1978 against Surrey, a rare achievement. Over the next 17 years, he established himself as a reliable seam bowler and valuable all-round contributor for Sussex and later Surrey.

He was a former England Fast-Medium Bowler. Throughout his career, Pigott participated in 260 first-class games, getting 672 wickets and amassing 4,841 runs. During the 1984 tour of New Zealand, he gained a single Test cap for England and notably put off getting married in order to play for his nation. He led innovative reforms, such as installing lighting and laying the groundwork for Sussex’s first County Championship in 2003, after retiring as a player due to back issues. He then served as a pitch liaison officer and match referee for the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).
