A massive fire broke out late Thursday at the historic Castle Hill Inn, sending flames and smoke high above the property and prompting a full evacuation of guests and staff. Mick Lamond, president and CEO of the Newport Restaurant Group, confirmed the incident and said, “All guests and staff have been evacuated safely.”

The fire erupted just after 9:30 PM at 590 Ocean Drive, and flames were visible from the Newport Bridge. Fire crews from multiple Rhode Island departments rushed to the scene to battle the blaze.

Firefighters arrived to find smoke and fire coming from the rear of the inn. Teams launched an offensive attack on the third floor and attic while conducting primary and secondary searches throughout the building. Assistance came from Newport Naval Station, Jamestown, Middletown, Portsmouth, North Kingstown, Bristol, and Kingston fire departments, along with the Providence Canteen.

Crews brought the fire under control just after midnight. Officials confirmed there were no injuries, and the inn was able to provide on-property lodging for displaced guests.
