With a powerful 61-run win against their arch-rivals Pakistan, the Suryakumar Yadav-led Indian cricket team has finally made it to the Super 8 phase of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026.

Riding on a hat-trick of victories, the Indian cricket team has managed to qualify for the next phase of the ongoing tournament, with one match to spare. They will face the Netherlands in their next game on Wednesday.

Earlier, the West Indies cricket team became the first team to qualify for the Super 8 phase of the ongoing tournament.

As the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026 heads into the final week of group-stage fixtures, with six spots still up for the grabs in the Super 8s, here’s what the remaining teams need to do in order to qualify for the Super 8s.

How does the qualification for Super 8s work?

The top two teams in each group – A to D – will qualify for the Super 8s, which will be made up of two groups of four teams. If any teams are level on points after the group-stage fixtures, the qualification will be considered based on the number of wins and then the net run-rate of those teams.

Group A:

Group A

Remaining games:
Pakistan vs Namibia – 18th February
India vs Netherlands – 18th February

1. India – The defending champions successfully secured their place in the Super 8s with a stunning 61-run win over Pakistan in a high-voltage clash.

2. Pakistan – With the defeat against the Indian cricket team, the Salman Ali Agha-led Pakistan cricket team has slipped to third position. Their net run-rate is also taking a heavy hit. However, if they manage to win against Namibia in their final group match on Wednesday, there are chances that Pakistan will qualify.

3.  USA – After having played all their games of the group stage, the USA is currently sitting in second position in the points table of Group A. In order to qualify for the Super 8s, the USA needs Pakistan and the Netherlands to lose their final games of the tournament. The Netherlands should also not overtake the USA’s net run-rate.

4. Netherlands – The Netherlands must defeat the Indian cricket team in their last group match. They also need Pakistan to lose their last match, and then it could come down to net run-rate.

5. Namibia – They are eliminated.

Group B:

Remaining Games:
Australia vs Sri Lanka – 16th February
Ireland vs Zimbabwe – 17th February
Sri Lanka vs Zimbabwe – 19th February
Australia vs Oman – 20th February

Sri Lanka: If Sri Lanka manages to defeat Australia on Monday, they can qualify for the Super 8s, but if the results don’t go in their favor, they would need to defeat Zimbabwe, and then it would come down to the net run-rates of both teams.

Australia: If Australia lost to Sri Lanka on Monday, they would be eliminated. Not just this, they also need Ireland to win on Tuesday, and then the contest will be based on their net run-rate.

Zimbabwe: Zimbabwe needs at least two wins to book a spot for the Super 8s. Though one win may be enough for them, it would then come down to net run-rate.

Ireland: Ireland not just needs to win their last game of the group stage but also hope that the results of other teams also go their way because they can only qualify on net run-rate.

Oman: Oman is eliminated.

Group C:

Group C

Remaining Games:
England vs Italy – 16th February
Scotland vs Nepal – 17th February
West Indies vs Italy – 19th February

West Indies: West Indies became the first team to qualify for the Super 8s after they secured a 9-wicket win over Nepal on Sunday.

England: The England cricket team must win in their game against Italy in order to qualify for the Super 8s. A defeat in this must-win game would likely see them get eliminated on net run-rate.

Scotland: Scotland also needs to defeat Italy on Monday and hope Italy defeats England, but do not surpass their net run-rate.

Italy: In order to qualify for the Super 8s, Italy must beat England. Two wins would see them through the qualification. If they don’t win against the West Indies, then the net run-rate would decide the result.

Nepal: Nepal is eliminated.

Group D:

Group D

Remaining Games:
Afghanistan vs UAE – 16th February
New Zealand vs Canada – 17th February
South Africa vs UAE – 18th February
Afghanistan vs Canada – 19th February

South Africa: If the UAE loses to Afghanistan, South Africa will get a green signal to progress and seal a spot in the Super 8s. Regardless of the UAE vs Afghanistan result, if they manage to win against the UAE on Wednesday, they would confirm their qualification.

New Zealand: New Zealand needs to win against Canada in their match on 17th February, and also hopes that the UAE doesn’t win both of their remaining games. If things don’t go in favour of New Zealand, then the new run-rate would decide who moves forward.

UAE: In order to qualify for the Super 8s, UAE needs to win both of their remaining games, and even then, they are likely to be relying on net run-rate in order to progress to the next stage of the tournament.

Afghanistan: Afghanistan needs to defeat both the UAE and Canada, and also hopes that neither New Zealand nor the UAE picks up points in their final games.

Canada: To qualify for the Super 8s, Canada needs to win both their remaining fixtures and also hope for the other results to go its way.
