The Central Government establishes the Pay Commission to conduct a review of salary systems and benefits, which include allowances and pension payments for central government workers. The 7th Pay Commission started its operations in 2016. The 8th Pay Commission will change base salary rates and fitment factor values and financial compensation methods according to its forthcoming establishment announcement, which the government has not yet made.

8th Pay Commission Latest Update: What About State Government Employees?

The Central Pay Commission recommendations do not provide automatic coverage to state government employees. Each state government determines its own method for implementing the recommendations through three options, which include full adoption, partial adoption, or complete rejection. The specific state policies of each state determine which benefits state employees will receive.

The 8th Pay Commission will provide benefits to central government employees and pensioners if the government decides to implement the program. The following groups may not receive direct benefits:

Private sector employees

  • People who work on contracts or temporarily and do not follow the central service rules
  • Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) employees who do not have specific permission to work
  • Personnel from autonomous organizations who do not follow central pay regulations.

All Pay Commission benefits apply to central government pensioners, but their eligibility depends on existing service laws and official implementation rules.
