Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor has reportedly been taken into custody over allegations of misconduct in public office during Investigation In Jeffrey Epstein’s files. Earlier today, multiple vehicles were seen arriving at the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk, where the former prince previously resided.
Over the years, he has remained in the spotlight for controversies, including losing his royal titles, facing sexual assault claims, and his association with the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Here’s a look at the timeline of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s past controversies.
Thames Valley Police reported that they were carrying out searches at addresses in Berkshire and Norfolk in connection with the case. “As part of the investigation, we have today (19/2) arrested a man in his sixties from Norfolk on suspicion of misconduct in public office and are carrying out searches at addresses in Berkshire and Norfolk,” the police statement read. “The man remains in police custody at this time. We will not be naming the arrested man, as per national guidance. Please also remember that this case is now active, so care should be taken with any publication to avoid being in contempt of court.” The police have not yet given details on the nature of the misconduct.
Who is Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor?
Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor (born 19 February 1960) is a member of the British royal family and the younger brother of King Charles III. Formerly known as Prince Andrew, Duke of York, he lost his royal titles, styles, and honors in October 2025 when the King removed them.
Prince Andrew’s Controversies
Previously known as Prince Andrew, Mountbatten-Windsor was stripped of his royal titles following widespread criticism over his association with the disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein. He stepped back from royal duties in 2019 after a poorly received BBC Newsnight interview, during which allegations of sexual assault, denied by him, were discussed.
In October 2025, Andrew was accused of asking the Metropolitan Police to investigate a woman who had accused him of sexual assault. Reports said he requested his former bodyguard to look into Virginia Giuffre, who passed away earlier this year, and provided her personal details, including her date of birth and social security number. There is no evidence that the officer acted on this request.
Mountbatten-Windsor has long faced criticism for his connection with Epstein, the billionaire paedophile who died in prison in 2019. He later paid millions to Giuffre, who had previously claimed to have never met him, while continuing to deny any wrongdoing.
