The Indian cricket team suffered its first loss of the T20 World Cup 2026 during a Super 8 match against South Africa at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Led by Suryakumar Yadav, India collapsed under pressure and lost the match by 76 runs. Despite a strong start from Indian bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh, who reduced South Africa to 20 for 3, David Miller counterattacked with a brilliant 63 off 35 balls. He was well-supported by Dewald Brevis, who scored 45, helping South Africa post a total of 187/7.
Chasing 188, India’s batting line-up collapsed completely, failing to gain control at any stage. The team was bowled out for just 111 runs, with Marco Jansen taking 4 crucial wickets, putting India’s semifinal hopes in serious jeopardy. It was the second major loss for India in Ahmedabad after the 2023 World Cup.
