Harry Brook’s maiden T20I ton helps England scrape through in a thrilling contest
Meanwhile, England captain Harry Brook stepped up big time to ensure that the two-time champions become the first side to book their spot in the semi-finals of T20 World Cup 2026. Although Pakistan managed what seemed like a below-par total of 164, they took three powerplay wickets to dent England’s run-chase. Even as wickets kept falling, the Yorkshire batter stood firm to build small partnerships with Sam Curran and Will Jacks to take their side closer to the target.
The elegant right-handed batter got to the three-figure mark in the 17th over of the innings with a boundary off only 50 deliveries. But Shaheen Shah Afridi, who had picked up three scalps earlier, dismissed Brook to keep Pakistan in the hunt. England got into the final over with three runs required but only two wickets in hand. They eventually got home with five balls and two wickets to spare, carrying England to the semi-finals.
The Englishmen will face New Zealand in their final game of Super 8 on Friday in Colombo.
