West Indies’ head coach Daren Sammy’s ‘Talk is cheap’ statement after T20 World Cup 2014 match against Australia has surfaced after his massive warning to Team India ahead of their Super 8 game on March 1, Sunday at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Sammy, who ushered the West Indies to T20 World Cup glory twice, warned India that result of the 2016 T20 World Cup semi-final could repeat again.

Daren Sammy gave a fitting reply to Australia after West Indies’ win over them in T20 World Cup 2014

The remark of ‘Talk is cheap’ stemmed during the post-game presser against Australia in T20 World Cup 2014 match when the Caribbeans chased down 179 with two balls to spare, with Sammy hitting the winning runs. The former seam-bowling all-rounder had hit back at James Faulkner’s pre-match remark, who said ‘I don’t particularly like them’ as quoted by ESPN Cricinfo. Sammy, in turn, said in the post-game presser, as quoted by the same publication:

Like I said in the pre-match press conference, talk is cheap. Cricket is a game of action. You can talk all you want but it is the action that matters. West Indies acted today. It feels very good to bring it home. We fought for it. Faulkner will not like us anymore.”

What did Daren Sammy say ahead of the fixture against India?

During the presser on Saturday, Sammy said he expects it to be a showdown between David and Goliath, expecting the former to emerge victorious. He stated, as quoted by crictracker:

“Well, I would say history can repeat itself. Although it was a different venue, but it’s two different teams. Two teams trying to move on in the tournament. I am pretty sure they will have 80,000 (67,000) here tomorrow and then another 1.4 billion supporting India. So it will still feel as a David and Goliath showdown, but like I said in 2016, David beat the Goliath. That’s what I’m going to tell my boys tomorrow.”

The Caribbeans are yet to lose a T20 World Cup match in Kolkata.
