Early on Sunday, a gunman opened fire at a bar in Austin, Texas, killing at least 3 and injuring 14. According to the police, they received a call and arrived at the scene in 57 seconds. In an exchange of fire with the police at the scene, the gunman was killed, and there was no initial statement on the shooter’s identity or motive.

Texas Mass Shooting: Police Statement & Official Updates

Austin Police Chief Lisa Davis led the response and briefing after a deadly shooting at a bar in the city early Sunday morning that left at least three people dead. Speaking to reporters, she confirmed that the suspected gunman was shot and killed by officers at the scene.

She explained that police were already stationed in Austin’s entertainment district as bars were closing, which allowed for an immediate response when the call came in. “Officers immediately transitioned … and were faced with the individual with a gun,” Davis said. “Three of our officers returned fire, killing the suspect.”

Texas Mass Shooting: Swift Emergency Response

Davis stressed how quickly officers moved to neutralize the threat. She noted that the heavy police presence in the area played a critical role in preventing further loss of life. Austin-Travis County EMS Chief Robert Luckritz said 14 people were hospitalized immediately.

“We received a call at 1:39 a.m. and within 57 seconds, the first paramedics and officers were on scene actively treating the patients,” Luckritz said. Davis also confirmed that federal law enforcement agencies are assisting in the ongoing investigation as authorities work to determine what led to the shooting.

Police have not yet released the identity of the shooter and have provided no details about a possible motive. Officials said the investigation is still in its early stages, and more information will be shared once authorities confirm key facts and complete initial interviews and evidence collection.

“We must end America’s gun violence epidemic,” Congressman Greg Casar said in a statement on social media. “Americans should be able to have fun at a bar without it turning into an unspeakable nightmare like this one – and I will redouble my efforts in Congress to prevent the next tragedy like this.”
