SA vs NZ: ‘Ahmedabad Is Our Home Ground’: Shukri Conrad Sets Sights on T20 World Cup 2026 Final

South Africa intends to keep their perfect run going when they take on New Zealand in Eden Gardens, Kolkata, in the first semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2026 on Wednesday, March 4, 2026.

After a clinical five-wicket victory over Zimbabwe, which kept South Africa as the only unbeaten team in the tournament, Proteas head coach Shukri Conrad expressed great confidence in his side’s tactical preparation. Since the Proteas have been playing most of their critical matches at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Conrad confidently referred to the place as their “home ground. “Thus, the team is already looking forward to Ahmedabad for the final on March 8.

The coach is convinced that their combination of present form and a “bit of luck” will at last end South Africa’s World Cup trophy drought.

Shukri Conrad Targets Ahmedabad Final As Proteas Embrace ‘Home Ground’ Advantage

Conrad’s message hit a mix of confidence and a bit of nerves as South Africa gets ready for the semi-final on March 4. He’s called the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad their “home ground,” since the team knows every inch of it by now, as they’ve played most of their T20 World Cup 2026 matches there this year.

The 58-year-old pointed out that their unbeaten run came down to just sticking to what works. But he’s honest about it: to finally shake off that old knockout curse and lift the trophy, they’ll need a little luck on their side.

“If we can continue doing what we’re doing, and we need a little bit of luck along the way as well, hopefully that will give us the result on Wednesday. And then, on to our home ground in Ahmedabad for the final. We’ve played a lot of our cricket there this tournament, and the boys feel incredibly comfortable in those conditions. It’s about taking that final step now.”

South Africa vs New Zealand: Semi Final 1, T20 World Cup 2026

The first semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2026 pits South Africa and New Zealand in a real clash of styles. Skiper Aiden Markram made sharp calls as captain, and guys like Ryan Rickelton and Tristan Stubbs have hammered attacks with the bat. Their bowlers, led by Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje, just keep finding ways to defend totals. You can see the confidence that comes from winning the World Test Championship last year, as they know how to pull it together when the pressure’s on.

New Zealand? They’ve had a bumpier ride. They only made it through to the semis on net run rate after a wild Super 8s, and South Africa already beat them once in the group stage. Still, Mitchell Santner’s team is always dangerous once knockouts start. And with Eden Gardens expected to offer a slow, spinning pitch, New Zealand’s got a real shot with their spin duo Santner and Ish Sodhi, who are ready to make things tricky.
