Team India face a high-pressure semi-final match at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai against two-time champions England, with the fixture set to take place on March 5, Thursday. Nevertheless, a peculiar reason forced the Men in Blue to reschedule their training session on March 3, Tuesday.
How Lunar Eclipse forced Team India to change their plans?
According to The Indian Express, the BCCI had informed that Suryakumar Yadav and co. will train from 6 to 9 PM at the Wankhede Stadium ahead of the semi-final. Nevertheless, the Lunar Eclipse beginning from 3:20 PM and lasting until 6:47 PM forced them to change the plans. The Indian Express reported that the Indian team found it inauspicious to train in that period as bad luck rides with it. A source quoted by The Indian Express claimed:
“The team found out that since it is chandra grahan ‘lunar eclipse’ one should avoid doing anything good. As India is playing semi-finals against England the team wanted to start on a positive note. Many felt that we can push the practice time until 6:40 PM one should avoid doing any activity. The team management agreed to it and practice was postponed by an hour.”
The Indian team has been in a spiritual mode throughout the tournament, going to temples in various cities before their games.
Team India had beaten England in their previous T20 World Cup semi-final meeting
Meanwhile, the Men in Blue had thwarted England by 68 runs in the T20 World Cup 2024 semi-final at the Providence Stadium in Guyana. India had posted a competitive 171/7 in 20 overs, thanks to a quick-fire half-century from Rohit Sharma. In response, only four England batters had reached double figures as they were bowled out for 103 in 16.4 overs.
England haven’t lost a game in this edition since losing to the West Indies, while India bounced back with back-to-back wins after a Super 8 defeat to South Africa.
