Five-time FIFA World Cup champions Brazil have suffered a body blow ahead of the mega tournament later this year as star footballer Rodrygo has suffered a serious injury to his knee injury. According to reports, the 25-year-old has an anterior cruciate ligament injury in his right knee, thereby ruling him out of the FIFA World Cup, beginning on June 11.

Rodrygo also ruled out of Champions League

The right knee injury has also ruled him out of the Champions League, making it a massive blow for the Real Madrid. The injury occurred during the La Liga match against Getafe at the Estadio Bernabeu, which the latter won as Marin Satriano netted a goal. A few minutes after stepping into the field, making an appearance at the 54th, Rodrygo was seen clutching his right knee as he winced in pain.

Here’s the statement issued by Real Madrid:

Following tests carried out today on our player Rodrygo by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with a torn anterior cruciate ligament and a torn lateral meniscus in his right leg.”

With the knee injury confirmed, Real Madrid now only have Vinicius and Gonzalo Garcia as the only strikers in their squad. Kylian Mbappe has also sustained an injury, while Franco Mastantuono was handed a red card during the defeat to Getafe. A straight red means Mastantuono could miss the game against Celta Vigo and the clash against Elche.

Brazil’s campaign ended in quarter-finals in FIFA World Cup 2022

Meanwhile, Brazil’s campaign in the FIFA World Cup 2022 was ended by Croatia in the quarter-finals. The quarter-finals against Croatia was 1-1 after the full time but the European nation overcame the serial winners by 4-2 on penalties. Brazil are clubbed with Morocco, Haiti and Scotland in Group C for the 2026 edition. They commence their campaign against Morocco on June 14 at the Metlife Stadium.
