India play England in the semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2026 in Mumbai on Thursday. This would be the third time when India and England will face each other in a T20 World Cup semi-final. While England defeated India in the 2022 edition, the Men in Blue clinched a win in 2024.

Jos Buttler has played 27 matches against India in T20Is and has notched up 644 runs at a strike-rate of over 143. Buttler averages 32.20 which is a decent number considering the batting strike-rate that he has against the Men in Blue. Buttler also has five fifties against India and England would surely need him to fire all cylinders in all-important semi-finals.

Jos Buttler was on a roll against India in the first outing when the two sides met each other in T20 World Cup 2022 in Adelaide. England were handed a target of 169 by India and Buttler along with Alex Hales took the side over the line. The wicket-keeper batter struck an unbeaten 80 off 49.
In the second instance, India and England played each other in the T20 World Cup 2024 at the Providence. The Rohit Sharma-led side made it all square as they defeated England by 68 runs. India posted 171/7 and then bundled out England for 103. Buttler who was leading the side was dismissed for 23 off 15.
The Dismissals
Buttler has been dismissed by right-arm medium pace bowlers thrice while has been out to left-arm medium pacers twice. Moreover, he has been sent back by left-arm spinner once and by off-spinner on one occasion as well. With the kind of track that Wankhede has on offer, it would be an interesting battle to watch out for between Buttler and India medium pacers.
