The Janata Dal (United) leadership on Friday cleared the formal entry of the 50 years  Nishant Kumar into the party, with his induction scheduled for Saturday, a move that signals the beginning of a generational shift within the organisation.
The decision was taken at a meeting held at 1, Anne Marg, the official residence of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. Party working president Sanjay Kumar Jha moved a resolution proposing Nishant’s entry into the party, which was passed unanimously.
Union minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh said Nishant would assume a leading role in the party’s organisational work. Party principal spokesperson Neeraj Kumar said Nishant would undertake a statewide tour after joining the party to interact with workers and review the organisation. He noted that Nitish Kumar had also travelled across Bihar extensively before consolidating his political position.
During the meeting, several party legislators urged Nitish Kumar to reconsider his decision to move to Parliament. Many MLAs expressed concern over the transition, citing their long association with the chief minister. Nitish sought to reassure them, saying he would continue to remain politically active in Bihar and that they should not feel unsettled by the development.
Explaining his decision to enter the Lok Sabha, Nitish said he had served in every legislative forum except the Rajya Sabha. Several prominent leaders from Bihar, including Jagannath Mishra, Lalu Prasad Yadav, Sushil Kumar Modi and Ram Kripal Yadav, had earlier served in legislative roles both in Patna and in Parliament.
Nitish also told legislators that he would retain a decisive say in the formation of the next ministry. Lallan Singh said the chief minister would decide the name of his successor once the transition process moves forward.
