A heated debate took place between former Pakistan men’s national cricket team pacer Mohammad Amir and ex-India batsman Mohammad Kaif just before the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 final. The argument was raised on social media after Kaif blamed Amir for frequently making remarks about the Indian team in the tournament.

Amir has been actively giving views and making predictions about India during the T20 World Cup. Whereas Kaif recently insinuated that the former Pakistan fast bowler was doing so mainly to keep himself relevant and stay in the limelight. The word didn’t please Amir at all, who immediately came up with a powerful reply on his YouTube channel. Amir, in his defence, claimed that he didn’t really have to talk about India to get noticed. Besides, he reacted to the criticism by challenging Kaif’s cricketing record. He said he looked into Kaif’s stats and revealed that the former Indian cricketer played only 29 games in the Indian Premier League with a strike rate just over 100.

Amir, in addition, made a point about his own T20 cricket experience, mentioning that he has been involved in over 350 T20 matches throughout his career. To him, those figures are proof that he does not require any publicity through comments on India or its players. The ex-Pakistan fast bowler, after that, made a pretty biting comment about Kaif’s international career. He said that Kaif should be grateful to the ex-India skipper Sourav Ganguly for giving him the chance to play for the Indian team. Also, in a roundabout way, he said that Kaif was more of a fielder than a batsman, i. e, he was famous for his fielding rather than his batting skills.

Amir said he had heard that Kaif’s place in the team was largely due to his exceptional fielding abilities, adding that such comments from a fellow cricketer were surprising and inappropriate.
The exchange between the two escalated further after Amir repeatedly criticised Indian opener Abhishek Sharma during the tournament. The Pakistani bowler has often targeted Sharma’s aggressive batting approach, describing him as a “slogger” and a “one-dimensional” player.
Responding to Amir’s remarks, Kaif reminded him of Pakistan’s disappointing campaign in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. He referred to Pakistan’s shock defeat against the United States national cricket team in that tournament, suggesting that Amir played a key role in the loss due to his costly bowling in a crucial over.

Kaif also argued that India should not pay too much attention to such remarks. He stated that constantly responding to comments from Pakistan would only give them unnecessary importance. With tensions rising between the two former cricketers, the debate has added another layer of drama to the build-up to the World Cup final, drawing significant attention from fans across the cricketing world.
