NEW DELHI: The upcoming Noida International Airport has reached a significant milestone after securing Security Vetting Approval from the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security, bringing the ambitious aviation project closer to the start of flight operations.

The clearance was granted after a detailed assessment of the airport’s security systems and overall preparedness. With this approval in place, the next step will be to obtain an aerodrome licence from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, which is required before commercial flight services can begin.

Located in Jewar in western Uttar Pradesh, the airport project is among the state government’s most important infrastructure initiatives. Once operational, it is expected to become one of the country’s most advanced and largest airports, enhancing regional connectivity and contributing to economic development.

Rakesh Kumar Singh, Chief Executive Officer of the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority, said security validation is a mandatory requirement before any airport can begin operations.

He said a BCAS team conducted a detailed inspection of several critical areas, including airport security arrangements, surveillance infrastructure, access control systems, and passenger and cargo screening procedures. Security Vetting Approval is granted only when all prescribed safety standards are satisfactorily met.

The clearance confirms that the airport’s security framework meets the required norms and is considered safe for flight operations. Following this stage, the DGCA will carry out the final process of issuing the aerodrome licence, after which commercial flights will be permitted to operate from the airport.

The project has been accelerated by the government led by Yogi Adityanath, which considers the airport a major infrastructure initiative for the state.

Officials say the airport is poised to emerge as a significant aviation hub not only for western Uttar Pradesh but also for the wider National Capital Region. Once operational, it is expected to drive investment, tourism, logistics and trade, while also creating thousands of job opportunities.

Authorities added that final preparations are underway, with efforts being made to make the airport operational at the earliest. The development of the airport is being carried out in multiple phases.

After full completion, the Noida International Airport is projected to be among the largest airports in India and across Asia, capable of handling millions of passengers annually and strengthening Uttar Pradesh’s links with the global aviation network.
