How Is IndiGo Empowering Women Pilots in India’s Aviation Sector?

IndiGo has become the first Indian airline to employ over 1,000 women pilots, marking a major milestone for gender diversity in aviation on International Women’s Day

International Women’s Day Special: India’s largest airline, IndiGo, has marked a major milestone in the aviation sector as it revealed that it now has more than 1,000 women pilots flying with it. With this achievement, it has become the first and only Indian airline to reach this milestone.

This achievement comes on the occasion of International Women’s Day, marking a milestone in the increasing presence of women in this field.

This achievement comes as IndiGo revealed that now 17.5 percent of its total pilots are women pilots, a figure more than three times higher than the average in the world. It also marked its commitment to fostering a diverse, inclusive, and progressive work culture by encouraging a new generation of women to join this field in India.

This achievement comes as a testament to its commitment to promoting gender diversity in this field, encouraging more and more women to join this field in India.

Women Workforce at IndiGo Continues to Grow

Apart from pilots, women are now filling important positions in various sections of the airline. At present, the airline has more than 45 percent of women as part of its total workforce, which indicates the airline’s commitment to gender diversity at the workplace.

The airline stated that the percentage of women working at the airport is more than 30 percent, whereas the percentage of women working at the airline’s Operations Control Centre is almost 25 percent. Moreover, the percentage of women working at the finance department is more than 20 percent.

In addition, the percentage of women working at the digital team is more than 15 percent, whereas the percentage of women working at the leadership positions is more than 23 percent.

IndiGo Reaffirms Commitment to Women in Aviation

Sukhjit Singh Pasricha, Group Chief Human Resources Officer of IndiGo, pointed out the importance of providing more opportunities for talented women in the aviation industry.

“This milestone is a true reflection of the spirit of Girl Power at IndiGo. As we continue to give wings to the nation, we remain committed to creating more opportunities for talented women to soar and shape the future of aviation.” Sukhjit Singh Pasricha, Group Chief Human Resources Officer, IndiGo.

Special Film Released to Celebrate Women Employees

To commemorate International Women’s Day, the airline also released a special video on its social media channels.

The video features the theme of Girl Power and showcases some inspiring moments from the journeys of women employees at IndiGo.

IndiGo Promotes Diversity and Inclusion Through EMBRACE Initiative

The airline has asserted that it has consistently promoted diversity, equity, and inclusion at the workplace with the help of different initiatives under its EMBRACE initiative.

EMBRACE is an acronym that stands for Equity, Multiculturalism, Belongingness, Respect, Accessibility, Community, and Empowerment. It includes initiatives like Girl Power, which is dedicated to empowering women at different levels of the organization.

IndiGo understands the importance of a diverse workforce that promotes gender equality and an inclusive culture among employees belonging to different communities.

IndiGo Strengthens Its Position as a Leader in Aviation

Further, the airline said that their recruitment practices, learning initiatives, employee development initiatives, and policies within the workplace are geared towards serving the needs of both employees and the organisation while ensuring that diversity is maintained.

This milestone has ensured that IndiGo cements its place as a pioneer within the aviation industry while encouraging more women to enter the industry and move into leadership positions in the future.
