NYT Connections 09 March, 2026: Word puzzles are dominating the online gaming world and NYT Connections from the New York Times is one of the leaders of the pack. It launched as part of the newspaper’s expanding portfolio of online puzzles and now boasts millions of daily visitors. It’s a simple concept on the surface but not so simple when you have to play it where you have to look for connections between words that don’t look similar at first glance. You have only four chances to fail and you rely on your vocabulary and general knowledge to win.

What is NYT Connections?

NYT Connections is a word puzzle where you have to arrange 16 words into four sets of four words each, with each set having a similar theme. Each set comes with a different level of difficulty ranging from yellow, which is easy and then comes green, blue and finally purple, which is abstract and the toughest. It became even more popular after the rise of another popular puzzle, Wordle, also from The New York Times puzzle series. It’s not your average guessing puzzle and it’s more of a test of your lateral thinking skills.

How to Play NYT Connections

  • Players receive 16 words displayed in a grid.
  • The goal is to identify four groups of four related words.
  • Each group shares a hidden connection such as theme, meaning or sound.
  • Difficulty levels are colour coded as Yellow, Green, Blue, Purple.
  • Players can make up to four mistakes before the game ends.
  • Once a correct set is chosen and it disappears from the grid.
  • The puzzle refreshes once every day on the NYT Games platform.
