Will GTA 6 Be Delayed Again? Speculation Rises After Jailed Hacker Arion Kurtaj Claims ‘Stolen Source Code’ May Leak

Concerns about a potential leak of Grand Theft Auto VI’s source code have resurfaced after new comments reportedly linked to the hacker behind the major 2022 breach at Rockstar Games. The hacker, Arion Kurtaj, who is currently imprisoned in the United Kingdom, recently suggested that the stolen source code for GTA 6 might still exist somewhere outside Rockstar’s control.

The statement has sparked fresh anxiety among fans and gaming industry observers. Many fear that if the code becomes public, it could create security problems for Rockstar Games and possibly affect the game’s development or release schedule. GTA 6 is one of the most anticipated video games in history, and any major leak could disrupt the studio’s carefully planned launch.

Will GTA 6 Be Delayed Again?

The latest comments linked to Arion Kurtaj have raised concerns among fans about whether Grand Theft Auto VI could face another delay. The game is already one of the most anticipated releases in the gaming industry, and any major security breach could potentially affect its development timeline.

If the GTA 6 source code were to leak publicly, it could create technical and security challenges for Rockstar Games. Source code contains the core programming behind the game, and hackers could use it to identify vulnerabilities or attempt to exploit online systems.

However, industry analysts believe a delay may not be certain. The materials stolen during the 2022 breach likely belong to an early development build, and the game’s code has probably changed significantly since then.

Even if older files appear online, they may no longer reflect the current version of the game. Still, Rockstar and its parent company, Take-Two Interactive, would likely monitor the situation closely to ensure the launch of GTA 6 proceeds without further disruptions.

GTA 6: Who is Arion Kurtaj?

Arion Kurtaj became widely known after carrying out one of the biggest video game hacks in recent years. As a teenager, he reportedly gained access to Rockstar Games’ internal systems and downloaded confidential development materials related to GTA 6.

The breach allowed early footage of the game to appear online in 2022, revealing unfinished gameplay clips and characters that had not yet been officially introduced. The leak quickly spread across the internet, forcing Rockstar to respond publicly to the incident.

Authorities later arrested Kurtaj, and in 2023, a UK court ordered him to be held indefinitely in a secure hospital after legal proceedings connected to the hacking case.

GTA 6: What Happened During the 2022 Rockstar Hack?

The 2022 cyberattack on Rockstar Games became one of the most talked-about security breaches in the gaming industry. During the incident, dozens of internal videos from an early development build of GTA 6 leaked online.

The footage showed early gameplay, development tools, and locations believed to be part of a modern version of Vice City. The clips also revealed the character Lucia, who later appeared in the game’s official trailer.

Despite the leak, Rockstar Games continued development on the project and reassured fans that the hack would not have a long-term impact on production. However, the possibility that the hacker also obtained the game’s source code has remained a concern since the incident.

GTA 6: Could the Source Code Still Leak?

Recent online messages attributed to Kurtaj suggest that the stolen source code might still exist somewhere outside Rockstar’s servers. During the conversation, he reportedly said the code is “definitely somewhere” and appeared surprised that it has not yet appeared online. These remarks have revived speculation that someone could still release the code publicly.

Source code represents the core programming behind a video game. If it becomes available to hackers or unauthorised developers, it could expose security vulnerabilities or allow others to copy parts of the game. For a massive project like GTA 6, which has been in development for years, such a leak could create serious technical and legal challenges.

GTA 6 Release Date: Could a Leak Delay the Game?

A potential source code leak raises questions about whether Rockstar might need to delay the game’s release. Developers typically protect source code carefully because it contains the systems that power gameplay mechanics, servers, and security features. If hackers gained access to sensitive parts of the code, they might attempt to exploit weaknesses in online systems or multiplayer features.

However, some analysts believe the risk of a major delay may be limited. Since the original breach happened in 2022, the game’s code has likely changed significantly during development. If that is the case, any leaked files might represent an older build that no longer matches the current version of the game.

GTA 6: How Rockstar & Take-Two May Respond

Rockstar Games and its parent company, Take-Two Interactive, have taken strong security measures since the original breach. Investigators examined the hacking incident in detail and worked to strengthen protections around internal systems.

Some industry observers believe that the companies may already know what happened to the stolen materials. It is also possible that the source code never left secure systems or was recovered during the investigation.

Even so, gaming companies often remain cautious when dealing with cyberattacks. A large-scale leak could disrupt marketing plans, create technical risks, or spread unfinished versions of the game online.

GTA 6: Why It is One of the Most Anticipated Games Ever?

Grand Theft Auto VI is expected to become one of the biggest entertainment releases of the decade. The game follows the massive success of GTA V, which has sold more than 185 million copies worldwide.

Rockstar officially revealed the first trailer for GTA 6 in 2023, confirming the return to a Vice City-inspired setting and introducing Lucia as one of the main characters. Fans have been waiting years for the next instalment in the series, and excitement continues to grow as the expected launch window approaches.

For now, Rockstar has not indicated that any new security concerns will affect development. But the possibility of another leak continues to keep both fans and developers on edge as the gaming industry watches closely.
