As tensions continue to rise in the Middle East, social media platforms have seen a surge of viral claims related to Israel and Iran. One widely circulated post recently claimed that Mossad chief David Barnea was targeted in an Iranian attack. The same posts also mentioned Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu’s brother, Iddo Netanyahu and National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir.

The claim spread quickly across social media, accompanied by a grainy video clip and an image of Barnea. The posts suggested that an Iranian strike had targeted the Israeli intelligence chief and that the incident could trigger a major escalation in the conflict.

However, a closer examination shows that the claims are misleading and lack credible evidence. The video circulating with the posts does not appear to be connected to the alleged attack, and there has been no confirmation from Israeli authorities about any such incident.

Was Mossad Chief David Barnea Targeted in Iranian Attack?

The viral posts claimed that Iran had carried out an attack targeting David Barnea, who currently leads Israel’s foreign intelligence agency, Mossad. Some versions of the claim suggested the incident occurred in Israel and implied that senior Israeli officials were directly targeted.

These posts gained attention because they appeared during a period of heightened tensions between Israel and Iran. As users shared the claim repeatedly, speculation grew online about possible retaliation or escalation.

However, there is no verified evidence that such an attack took place. Israeli government officials and major news outlets have not reported any incident involving an attack on the Mossad chief.

Iran-Israel War: Claims Mentioned Iddo Netanyahu & Itamar Ben-Gvir

The misinformation did not stop with David Barnea. Some posts claimed that Iddo Netanyahu, the brother of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, had been killed in an Iranian strike in Tel Aviv.

Other posts alleged that National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir had been injured when his home supposedly caught fire during the same attack.

However, these claims also collapse under scrutiny. No official statements or credible news reports have confirmed that Iddo Netanyahu was killed or injured. Similarly, there is no verified information indicating that Ben-Gvir’s residence was targeted.

A few social media posts even suggested that Israeli media had reported a car accident involving Ben-Gvir to hide injuries from the alleged strike. But there is no reliable evidence supporting this theory.

Who is David Barnea?

David Barnea currently serves as the head of Mossad, Israel’s foreign intelligence agency. He took over the role in 2021 and is responsible for overseeing intelligence operations and security missions outside Israel.

Barnea has spent decades working within Mossad and previously led several key departments within the agency. His leadership places him among the most influential figures in Israel’s intelligence community. According to official information, his term as Mossad director is scheduled to continue until June 2026.

Who is Iddo Netanyahu?

Iddo Netanyahu is the younger brother of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Unlike his brother, he is not involved in active politics. He is known as a physician, writer and playwright. Over the years, he has written several books and stage plays while also working in the medical field.

The viral claims about his death appear to have been entirely fabricated, as there are no credible reports supporting the allegation.

Who is Itamar Ben-Gvir?

Itamar Ben-Gvir currently serves as Israel’s National Security Minister. He is a prominent political figure and leader of the far-right Otzma Yehudit party.

As minister, Ben-Gvir oversees several security-related areas, including policing and internal security matters. Because of his high-profile role in Israeli politics, his name often appears in discussions about the country’s domestic and security policies.

The viral claim that he was injured in an attack has not been supported by any verified information.

Iran-Israel War: Old Video Misused in the Viral Posts

A key part of the viral claim involved a video clip that users said showed the alleged attack. But investigations revealed that the footage was not related to the current situation.

The clip actually comes from pager explosions that occurred in Lebanon in 2024. The video had been circulating online long before the recent claim appeared and was unrelated to any attack on Israeli officials.

By sharing the old footage with a new caption, the posts created the impression that a recent incident had taken place. This tactic is common in misinformation campaigns during conflicts, where outdated videos are reused to support false narratives.

Fact Check Verdict: No Evidence Mossad Chief David Barnea Was Targeted

The viral posts claiming that Mossad chief David Barnea was targeted in an Iranian attack are not supported by credible evidence. The video used in the posts comes from an unrelated incident in Lebanon in 2024 and has been shared out of context.

Similarly, the claims involving Iddo Netanyahu and Itamar Ben-Gvir lack verification from officials or reliable news sources.

In periods of geopolitical tension, misinformation can spread quickly online. In this case, the circulating claims appear to be based on recycled footage and unverified speculation rather than confirmed events.
