In the immediate aftermath of Team India’s T20 World Cup 2026 win, their batters have made big surge in the latest ICC rankings. Ishan Kishan took the cake as he climbed to the second spot in the T20I batting rankings, trailing his teammate Abhishek Sharma only marginally in the updated standings announced by the apex body of cricket on March 11, Wednesday.
Ishan Kishan sizzles despite role change midway through the tournament
The keeper-batter started the 20-team marquee tournament as an opener but the team management had to bring Sanju Samson back into the side, given the top-order’s struggles against off-spin. Despite dropping down to No.3, the left-handed batter made impactful scores, especially in the semi-final against England and the final against New Zealand. Having aggregated 317 runs in nine innings, Kishan finished as the fourth-highest run-getter of the 2026 edition. It also came at as strike rate of 193.29, which proved to the fourth-best in the event.
As a result, Kishan is now the closest rival to Abhishek, who held on to his top spot after coming good in the final, having struggled for consistency throughout the tournament. Abhishek boasts of 875 points, while Kishan has 871 in his kitty. Among the top 10, New Zealand opener Tim Seifert jumped four places to 6th.
Varun Chakravarthy loses top spot in ICC T20I bowling rankings:
While India’s mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy finished T20 World Cup 2026 as the joint-leading wicket-taker with 14 scalps, his economy rate took a hit, conceding 9.25 runs an over. Although the wrist-spinner still had more than a respectable average of 20.50 in his nine innings, he lost the top spot to Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan. But Chakravarthy, who has 740 points, remains in touching distance within leaving behind Rashid, who has 753.
Team India created history by clinching their third T20 World Cup title, becoming the first side to do so thrice. In the process, they have also become the first team to defend their title successfully and lift the trophy at home. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has notably announced a cash prize of ₹131 crore.
