An artist’s brush meets the serenity of nature

Art aficionadas in the national capital can look forward to some pioneering works of Vadodra based artist Ashish Kumar Das. To celebrate 25 years of his professional journey, a solo show is being organised at Lalit Kala Academy from 10 December to 16 December.

Titled Rendezvous with Nature, the show talks about the inherent fervour particularly the culture, religion, language so interwoven with nature around has always touched his life. The natural environment stands out amongst all this and has carved a special niche in his life. The rendezvous with nature has brought forth an eclectic vision in his sculptures sometimes as man reaching for the moon or in other cases the different mudras of Buddha used rhetorically in the journey of peace and satisfaction. His designs follow a systematic scheme and clarity of outlines, shapes and boldness which he has used to enhance the pictorial representation. He relies on human desire for freedom, finding solace in faith and hunt for brightness in life.

Copper, Wood, Marble, Brass and Bronze are some of the mediums used in Asish’s sculptures. Being optimistic in his vision, the image he displays on his canvases present a positive vista, which transmits his sacred intention behind such rendering of objects.

He has done solo shows like Parchhayi at Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai in 2012, Parchhayi-2 at L & P Hutheesing Visual Art Centre,  Ahmedabad in 2014,  Confluence at Lalit Kala Akademy, New Delhi, 2015, Face to Face at Nehru Art Centre, Mumbai in 2016,  Face II Face at Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai in  2016.

Recently he has finished working for The Canadian Museum of Hindu Civilization at Toronto, Canada. The works were based on Hindu Civilisation where he has created a series of ten sculptures which are to be part of the Wall of Peace project and is installed there.

“Delhi has a rich history of art and culture and been at the forefront of promoting artists who are passionate about their work. This is the reason why I am eager to host my solo exhibition in the city of art lovers to celebrate my 25 years in this profession,” says Ashish Kumar Das.

 His influences are first and foremost everything we see, feel and experience and so the subject matter of his sculpture inadvertently happen to be such things to which a common man can easily relate to.
