Bangladesh Election 2026 Live Updates: After former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was forced to flee the country following massive students-led anti-government protests and rising demands for parliamentary elections, Bangladesh is finally gearing up for the 13th National Parliament elections scheduled for Wednesday, February 12. The Bangladesh Awami League has been barred from contesting the Bangladesh election. The main contenders in the polls are the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), which has fielded 291 candidates, and the Islamic conservative party Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, which is contesting in alliance with the National Citizen Party (NCP).
Security has been tightened across polling stations in 299 constituencies voting today. Voting in one constituency has been cancelled following the death of a candidate. Over 12.77 crore voters are eligible to cast their ballots in the Bangladesh parliamentary election 2026 across 42,779 polling stations nationwide. Results are expected to be announced on Friday, February 13.
Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus urged voters to participate in large numbers. “All of you should exercise your respective voting rights consciously,” Yunus said in a televised address, adding that the election will allow citizens to choose representatives who reflect the people’s aspirations.

Voting is underway at 42,779 polling centres, overseen by around eight lakh polling officers, while 9.58 lakh law enforcement personnel—including members of the Army, Air Force, Navy, RAB, and Ansar—have been deployed.
Fifty political parties are participating in the elections. Major contenders include the Bangladesh Nationalist Party with 292 candidates, Jamaat-e-Islami with 225, Jatiyo Party with 196, Bangladesh Islami Andolan with 259, and the National Citizen Party with 30.
In addition, 394 international election observers and 197 foreign journalists have arrived in Dhaka to monitor and document the polls.
