Bangladesh Election Result 2026 Live Updates: Nation voted on Thursday in its first national election since the 2024 mass protests that forced former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina from power.

The polling process was largely calm, in what many observers view as a decisive moment for the country’s democratic trajectory after prolonged political unrest. Voting began slowly but gained momentum as the day progressed, with higher turnout recorded in Dhaka and other regions across the country.

Vote counting has begun for Bangladesh’s high-stakes parliamentary election, with early trends showing the Bangladesh Nationalist Party leading in 40 out of 102 seats. Polling concluded at 4 pm across 299 constituencies, recording a voter turnout of 47.91 per cent. Tens of millions of Bangladeshis voted in the election, widely seen as a turning point following the 2024 Gen Z-led uprising that forced long-time Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina out of power.

Bangladesh’s political environment has changed dramatically since the Awami League was prevented from contesting. The BNP, led by newly returning chief Tarique Rahman, has emerged as the frontrunner, campaigning on promises of job creation and the restoration of the rule of law. However, a revived Jamaat-e-Islami and the youth-led National Citizen Party are posing a significant challenge, indicating the development of coalition-driven politics in the post-Hasina period.

Bangladesh Election Result 2026 Live Updates: Vote counting is underway as early trends show BNP leading in 100 seats. Polling ended with 47.91% turnout in the first post-Sheikh Hasina election, marking a major political shift.
