Bank Holiday on September 14, 2026: It is important for bank account holders who plan to visit any of the banks on Monday, September 14, 2026, to verify whether the day is a holiday or not. Some of the branches of banks in India will observe the holiday for the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi along with the other observances in that region. This is not a holiday that is observed across the country and the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) works on a holiday schedule for each city.

Are Banks Open or Closed on September 14?

On September 14, banks will be closed in the following nine cities mentioned above as Belapur, Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Nagpur, Panaji and Vijayawada. These closures are associated with celebrations of Ganesh Chaturthi, Ganesh Puja, Varasiddhi Vinayaka Vrata, and Vinayakar Chaturthi. Bank customers from other places should not consider their local bank branch closed just because of a bank holiday in another place.

SBI, HDFC, ICICI, PNB Closed on Up to 4 Days

Banks like SBI, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank and Punjab National Bank will close down branches according to the relevant holiday list prescribed by the RBI in different cities. Customers can expect up to four branch closure days in one week/month in September depending on which city they are in, as there are regional holidays as well as the usual Sunday/Saturday closures. The key point here is that it’s branches which will be closed, not the online banking channels.

Where Will Banks Remain Closed on September 14

According to the RBI holiday matrix, the affected locations include:

  • Belapur
  • Bengaluru
  • Bhubaneswar
  • Chennai
  • Hyderabad
  • Mumbai
  • Nagpur
  • Panaji
  • Vijayawada

This covers branches in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Goa and Andhra Pradesh. The September 14 holiday is therefore regional rather than an all-India closure.

When Will Banks Remain Closed in September?

Key September 2026 dates include:

  • September 14: Regional bank holiday for Ganesh Chaturthi-related observances.
  • September 15: Holidays in selected locations for Samvatsari, Nuakhai and the second day of Ganesh Chaturthi.
  • September 18: Bank holiday in Shillong for Unitarian Anniversary Day.
  • September 20: Sunday, when bank branches remain closed nationwide.
  • September 21: Holidays in selected locations for regional observances.
  • September 22: Bank holiday in Ranchi for Karma Puja.
  • September 23: Holiday in Jammu and Srinagar for Maharaja Hari Singh’s Birthday.
  • September 25: Bank holiday in Gangtok for Indra Jatra.
  • September 26: Fourth Saturday, when bank branches remain closed.

Will Online Banking Services Remain Available?

  • Internet banking is still functional for regular transactions.
  • Mobile banking applications are operational even when the bank branches are closed.
  • The UPI system continues to function for eligible transactions.
  • ATMs are operational but dependent on cash availability and technical services.
  • Services requiring a physical branch, such as certain documentation, verification and account-related requests, will have to wait until the branch reopens.

Bank Holiday in September: City-Wise Upcoming Schedule

The customer needs to take into account the regional specificity of the RBI calendar. If there is a holiday for Bhubaneswar, Mumbai and Bengaluru, then that does not necessarily mean that the banks will be closed in Delhi and Kolkata on the same day. Therefore, September includes both regional holidays and the usual weekly and second and fourth Saturdays.

Bank Holiday Today: What This Means for September 14

For customers in the nine listed cities, September 14 is a branch holiday. For customers elsewhere, normal branch operations may continue.

A bank holiday does not imply that banks will close down while electronic payment systems like UPI, mobile banking, internet banking and ATMs can cater to most daily needs. If people have any bank-related activities planned, then they must consider the local holiday schedule.
