Dow Jones Today: Dow futures traded higher on Friday, October 2, as investors awaited the closely watched US September jobs report, while easing Treasury yields and lower oil prices provided some support to Wall Street. Technology stocks including Nvidia, Broadcom and AMD also gained in premarket trading.

Dow Jones Futures Today

Dow futures pointed to a stronger opening for US equities, with contracts gaining around 0.51% to 53,061 in the latest market indications. The move came as investors assessed changing expectations for Federal Reserve interest-rate policy ahead of the September employment report.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average had ended Thursday at 50,926.56, gaining 20.51 points, or about 0.04%. The S&P 500 rose 0.19%, while the Nasdaq Composite added about 0.04%.

US Jobs Report in Focus

The main catalyst for Friday’s trading session is the September nonfarm payrolls report from the US Labor Department. Economists surveyed by Reuters expect the US economy to have added 90,000 jobs in September, down from 162,000 in August. The unemployment rate is forecast to remain at 4.1% for a third consecutive month.

The report is being closely watched because employment data can influence expectations for the Federal Reserve’s next interest-rate decisions. A stronger or weaker-than-expected reading could affect Treasury yields, the dollar and equity markets.

Treasury Yields Ease

US Treasury yields moved lower on Friday after rising sharply during the previous session. The decline in yields helped improve sentiment toward stocks, particularly growth and technology shares.

Reuters reported that markets had reduced expectations of an October Federal Reserve rate hike, with the probability of rates remaining unchanged rising substantially.

However, yields remain a key concern for investors after a sharp rise in long-term borrowing costs during the past week. Reuters reported on Thursday that the 10-year Treasury yield had reached 5.32%, its highest level since 2002.

Nvidia, AMD, Broadcom Stocks in Focus

Technology and semiconductor stocks were among the notable gainers before the opening bell.

Nvidia rose nearly 0.9%, while Broadcom and AMD gained around 1% each in premarket trading. Alphabet and Tesla were also higher by close to 1%.

The technology sector remains an important driver for US equities as investors continue to assess corporate spending and demand linked to artificial intelligence.

Oil Prices Today

Oil prices also influenced the Wall Street outlook. Brent crude fell below $100 a barrel on Friday after reports that the European Union was discussing additional releases from diesel and crude reserves.

Lower oil prices can ease some inflation concerns, although Middle East developments remain a significant source of uncertainty for energy markets.

Nike Stock Falls

Not all stocks were moving higher. Nike shares fell about 10% in premarket trading after the sportswear company forecast a sharp annual revenue decline and announced job cuts and changes to its global business structure. The company cited weakness in China as one of the challenges affecting its outlook.

Dow Jones Today: What Investors Should Watch

Investors will primarily monitor the September jobs report, Treasury yields, oil prices and comments from Federal Reserve officials for clues about the future interest-rate path. Reuters reported that the US labour market is expected to show slower hiring but continued stability, with payroll growth forecast at 90,000 and unemployment at 4.1%. Recent JOLTS data also showed US job openings falling in August while layoffs remained low.

For the Dow Jones, the combination of employment data, interest-rate expectations, Treasury yields and movements in major technology and industrial stocks could determine the direction of trading after the opening bell.
