Fuel Prices Today, 13 May 2026: India’s fuel economy has entered a sensitive phase as global crude oil prices continue hovering above the psychologically critical $100 per barrel mark while petrol and diesel prices across most Indian cities have remained largely unchanged for nearly 11 months, economists now warn that the stability may not last much longer.
India imports more than 85% of its crude oil requirement, making domestic fuel prices highly vulnerable to geopolitical tensions and supply disruptions in West Asia. Brent crude trading above $105 per barrel has intensified pressure on oil marketing companies (OMCs), which analysts say are absorbing heavy under-recoveries to prevent an immediate inflation spike.
Economists estimate OMC losses are nearing ₹30,000 crore per month as retail prices remain below market-linked levels while experts now expect calibrated increases in petrol, diesel and LPG rates after May 15 rather than a sudden steep hike and the government is also focusing on fuel conservation measures to reduce pressure on foreign exchange reserves and inflation.
