Korea Stock Market (KRX) Today (July 10): South Korea’s benchmark KOSPI index slipped into a technical bear market, and the country’s stock market staged a powerful comeback on Friday (July 10). The KOSPI surged 4.60% to close at 7,627.19, while the technology-heavy KOSDAQ climbed 4.05% to 826.13, restoring investor confidence after one of the market’s steepest corrections this year.

The rally was fuelled by renewed optimism over AI, robust institutional buying and strong gains in heavyweight companies such as Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix. Despite the recent volatility, South Korea continues to remain the world’s best-performing stock market in 2026, with the KOSPI still up about 76% year-to-date.

Korea Stock Market (KRX) Today (July 10): Why is the Korean Stock Market Up Today?

South Korea’s stock market rebounded strongly after investors returned to AI-related technology stocks that had witnessed heavy selling earlier in the week. Optimism surrounding a $250 billion global AI infrastructure investment plan, improving investor sentiment, and nearly 2 trillion won ($1.47 billion) in institutional buying helped lift both benchmark indices.

The recovery was also supported by strong investor demand for SK Hynix’s American Depositary Receipts (ADR) ahead of its Nasdaq debut, with reports indicating the offering was oversubscribed more than seven times.

Korea Stock Market (KRX) Today (July 10): KOSPI Jumps Nearly 5%

The benchmark KOSPI index surged 4.60% to close at 7,627.19 points, after touching an intraday high of 7,704.93.

The rally followed a steep correction earlier in the week when the index had fallen more than 20% from its record closing high of 9,114.55 on June 22, briefly entering technical bear market territory.

Friday’s gains extended Thursday’s recovery, leaving the benchmark up around 5.5% over two consecutive sessions.

Korea Stock Market (KRX) Today (July 10): KOSDAQ Gains Around 4%

The technology-focused KOSDAQ index advanced 4.05% to close at 826.13 points, while the KOSDAQ 150 Index surged 6.44% to 1,476.37 during the session.

Technology companies, AI-related businesses and semiconductor suppliers led the rally as investors returned to growth stocks following the recent sell-off.

Korea Stock Market (KRX) Today (July 10): Is KOSPI Out Of the Bear Market?

Yes. Friday’s rally helped the KOSPI recover enough to move out of technical bear market territory.

The benchmark had entered a bear market after falling more than 20% from its all-time closing high of 9,114.55. However, Friday’s 4.60% rebound reduced losses to below the 20% threshold used to define a technical bear market.

Although the technical bear market has ended, analysts expect volatility to continue because of uncertainty surrounding global AI demand and foreign investor sentiment.

Korea Stock Market (KRX) Today (July 10): Samsung Electronics Gains More Than 5%

Samsung Electronics jumped more than 5%, making it one of the biggest contributors to the KOSPI’s recovery.

The stock rebounded after suffering sharp losses earlier this week as investors regained confidence in AI-related semiconductor companies. Given Samsung’s heavy weighting in the benchmark index, its recovery provided significant support to the broader market.

Korea Stock Market (KRX) Today (July 10): SK Hynix Rose Around 5.3%

Shares of SK Hynix climbed around 5.3% during Friday’s session. Investor sentiment improved after reports that the company’s Nasdaq ADR offering was oversubscribed more than seven times, highlighting strong international demand for one of the world’s leading AI memory chip manufacturers.

Korea Stock Market (KRX) Today (July 10): AI & Semiconductor Stocks Lead the Recovery

AI-related companies drove Friday’s rally across South Korea’s equity market.

Apart from Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, LG Energy Solution rose around 5%, Hyundai Motor and Kia gained up to 5%, while POSCO Holdings surged more than 7%.

The strong performance reflected growing optimism that AI investment and semiconductor demand remain robust despite the recent correction.
