Graphite India Limited is one of India’s leading graphite electrode manufacturers and among the larger global producers by capacity. The company has over 60 years of industry experience with an installed graphite electrode capacity of 80,000 tonnes per annum across its Durgapur and Nashik manufacturing facilities. It focuses particularly on higher margin, large diameter Ultra High Power electrodes which are used in Electric Arc Furnace based steel production.
Graphite India has delivered a strong operating performance during Q1 FY2027 with Consolidated net sales increasing 26.6% year-on-year to Rs 842 crores driven primarily by higher sales volumes. EBITDA rose 24.9% to Rs 241 crores while consolidated net profit increased by 28.3% to Rs 172 crores . On the other hand , EBITDA margin remained healthy at 28.6%, while EPS increased to Rs 8.82 in June 2026 from Rs 6.87 in June 2025 .Capacity utilisation improved substantially to 97% compared with 82% earlier indicating strong utilisation of the company’s manufacturing facilities.
One of Graphite India’s major strengths is its conservative balance sheet and as of June 2026, the consolidated cash and cash equivalents stood at approximately Rs 4,205 crores as against total debt of Rs 266 crores resulting in net cash of Rs 3,939 crores . This provides substantial financial flexibility for future organic expansion as well as acquisitions or other strategic investments.
The medium term outlook for the graphite electrode industry is supported by the increasing adoption of Electric Arc Furnace technology. Governments globally are pursuing decarbonisation and Electric Arc Furnace ( EAF ) steelmaking is expected to gain importance because of its lower emissions and cost advantages. Increasing EAF adoption should support long term graphite electrode demand with India remaining a particularly attractive manufacturing destination .
Indian crude steel production increased 7.5% year-on-year to 87 million tonnes during the first six months of 2026 and industry analysts are also highlighting an expected 9.2% increase in Indian steel demand during FY2027 supported by infrastructure, construction and automotive sectors.
Graphite India is pursuing capacity expansion and diversification with the first phase of its graphite electrode capacity expansion expected to be commissioned during the current financial year of FY2026-27 . The company is also progressing with its Synthetic Graphite Anode Materials project. Beyond its core business, Graphite India has acquired a 60.25% stake in General Graphene Corporation which is developing large area graphene sheets plus it is also diversifying into advanced battery technologies for EV and energy storage applications.
Graphite India combines strong cash generation, high capacity utilisation, a debt light balance sheet and exposure to structural growth in Electric arc Furnace based steelmaking. Even though the near term environment remains subject to graphite electrode pricing, raw material and logistics costs and global steel market conditions. However, India’s strong steel demand outlook, EAF adoption, capacity expansion and diversification initiatives provide potentially attractive medium term growth drivers.
Overall, Graphite India appears fundamentally well positioned for the medium term with a particularly strong balance sheet providing a significant margin of financial flexibility. Industry analysts and large brokerage houses are bullish on the Graphite India stock quoting at Rs 730 on the bourses with a medium to long term term investment horizon.
