Why Is Silver Price Falling in India?

Silver prices are falling in India mainly due to weaker global prices, a stronger US dollar and profit-taking. Silver fell from ₹2.55 lakh/kg in September to ₹2.35 lakh/kg on October 4, a 7.8% decline from the monthly high.

Fed Rate Outlook Remains Important

The Federal Reserve’s interest-rate outlook is another major driver for gold. Recent US economic data have produced mixed signals. September nonfarm payrolls increased by only 29,000, below economists’ expectations, while unemployment rose to 4.2%, according to Reuters. The weak jobs data reduced expectations of an October rate hike.

However, the gold market remains sensitive to the broader inflation and interest-rate outlook. Earlier in the week, stronger inflation concerns and elevated oil prices had increased expectations of tighter US monetary policy, contributing to a sharp gold sell-off.
