US Stock Market Today Live: The Wall Street continued its rally of record highs on August 5 as investors celebrated yet another influx of earnings beat, sturdy economic numbers and positive sentiment regarding international trade and energy markets. The Dow Jones Industrial Average, the S&P 500 index and the Nasdaq were still up amid advances in tech, healthcare and consumer shares. Over 84% of S&P 500 companies have reported earnings that beat estimates in the current earnings reporting period, demonstrating the robustness of American business sector amid inflationary pressures and geopolitics.

The Nasdaq Composite managed to stay in the green as semiconductors and artificial intelligence equities maintained their popularity among investors. Nvidia increased by 4.5%, Micron Technology went up by 2.95%, which helped to compensate for AMD’s decline.

What Is Happening in the US Stock Market Today?

The stocks in the US are trading at all-time high levels because of strong earnings growth, economic expansion and reduced worries regarding energy shortages. The S&P 500 index has risen by over 6% within a week, while the Nasdaq index has risen by over 9%, representing one of the strongest five-day gains for Wall Street since April 2025.

Why Is US Stock Market Up Today?

Several factors are driving today’s rally:

  • More than 84% of the S&P 500 companies have exceeded earnings estimates.
  • Disney and Eli Lilly reported better-than-expected quarterly performance.
  • Stock market players are still hopeful that the disruption in the Strait of Hormuz will eventually resolve.
  • The expansion in the service industry maintained its growth rate at 54.1 as measured by the ISM Services PMI, staying above 50 the mark of growth – for 25 consecutive months.

SpaceX Dives 9% After AI Spending Surge Rattles Investors

SpaceX’s stock declined by about 9% after it was found that SpaceX spent six times more cash than it did last year in the second quarter to $18.4 billion due to AI technology. Even though it still gave good revenue expectations, investors were concerned about the spending.

ISM Services Index Hits 54.1 While Prices Up, Hiring Down

The most recent ISM Services PMI reading was 54.1, signaling ongoing growth in the US services industry however the employment sub-index dropped to 47.4, the lowest reading since March, hinting that the pace of hiring activity is weakening. On the other hand, the prices sub-index moved up to 70.3.

Hormuz Deal Would Give Iran Control of Inbound Traffic

Reports suggest Iran and Oman are discussing an agreement that could grant Tehran greater authority over inbound shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. While negotiations continue, markets remain cautious because the waterway handles a significant share of global oil shipments, making any policy shift important for energy prices.

Oil Prices Rise After Houthis Claim to Have Struck Saudi Tanker

Prices of oil rallied as the Houthis in Yemen took credit for their attacks on a Saudi oil tanker in the Red Sea. The price of Brent crude stood at approximately $79-$80 a barrel, and that of West Texas Intermediate was at around $75 a barrel.

Gold Rises on Softer Oil Prices

Gold maintained its role as a safe-haven investment and rose 3.8 percent to about 4,232.90 while gold is forecasted to trade in a range of $3,580 to $4,646 during the month of August.

Bitcoin Prices Today

Bitcoin hovered around $64,363, recording a rise of 0.16% on the day. Bitcoin hit its highest level of 64,529 intraday but is still down over 26% since the start of the year.
